Entitlements and Benefits for Former Police Officers Injured at Work

If your loved one experienced an injury or illness while serving with the WA Police Force, then you deserve peace of mind even after they retire.

The Former Officers' Medical Benefits Scheme was established to provide former police officers and Aboriginal police liaison officers (APLO) with support for medical expenses related to a physical or psychological injury that occurred whilst in the performance of their duties with the WA Police Force.

The Insurance Commission of Western Australia (ICWA) manages claims on behalf of the WA Police Force and the scheme covers reasonable medical expenses that are directly related to a work injury or illness.

All reimbursements are in line with the Worker’s Compensation and Injury Management Act 1981 (WA), which sets a prescribed amount that is indexed annually. Effective 1 July 2024, the prescribed amount is $158,692 (click Indexation of Worker's Compensation Payments 2024/25 link below for more details).
