R U Kitted Up?
Published on
Just as police officers 'kit up' everyday to protect themselves from physical harm, it's equally important for them to 'kit up' everyday to shield themselves from emotional and psychological harm.
Health, Welfare and Safety Division are encouraging police officers to think of self-care as accoutrements they put on daily.
To summarise the 3 C's:
Check-in: take the time to check in with yourself promotes self worth, as the act of checking-in sends the message that you value yourself in this moment. The same is true when you check-in with others and actively listen to what they have to say.
Connect: focus on making at least one connection, such as spending time in nature, linking in with community groups and activities, or accessing resources and support, both face to face and online.
Change: commit to taking a small action that is line with values that are most important to you, acknowledging and rewarding yourself for making this positive change every day.
An R U Kitted Up booklet is available on the Fit for LIFE intranet page for WA Police Force employees.
